Reed, Hastings, 1930s
« on: Tuesday 24 August 04 19:14 BST (UK) »

This is a long shot, but I wonder if there are any local press archives from Hastings in the 1930s.  I'm told that Albert Reed was celebrated as the last pipeclay seller and that his retirement, some time in the 1930s (I think) was in the local papers.  I'd be grateful for any information.

Hi Sutton trust

There are several Newspaper archives in Hastings, both at the Library and the Museum - plus of course the Observer Office here in Hastings.

Hastings Observer - www.hastingstoday.co.uk

But I believe all the archives are 19th Cenrury rather than 20th century - but there is one place that will definitely have it - The National Newspaper Archive at Collingdale, North London.

Thanks; it's certainly not online - another of those things I can't get to in London.
