1841 Census Look up. Maskell at Ashampstead.
« on: Tuesday 25 October 05 13:37 BST (UK) »

My gt gt gt grandfather Isaac Maskell was born in Ashampstead around 1821.  He married Frances Hawkins in 1842.  Could somebody look up the 1841 census and find Isaac, his father was called James.  They were both agricultural labourers.  I would love to know the other members of the family too.
Thank you,

Sue

Hi Sue

I cannot see Isaac Maskell in the 1841 census but have found a James:

HO 107/23/2 sched 4
The Common, Ashampstead

James Maskell age 54 Ag Lab
Hannah daughter age 24 Dressmaker
Eliza daughter age 15

all born in the county

I do not have an index for 1841 so cannot tell if he is in a neighbouring parish. You say he married in 1842 - do you know where his wife was from?

Regards

Mike

Thanks Mike,

This looks promising as an Eliza Maskell was a witness on the wedding certificate.  Frances Hawkins was from Thatcham, she was a minor when she married Isaac,  her father's name was William Hawkins.  I suppose it is possible that Isaac was working away from home in 1841, so if you can find him there it would make sense.

Thanks again for the information.
