Yes, I live very near the Surrey History Centre, and can look them up there on a future visit.

Let me know what you need looking up.

Hi.

Very many thanks for your reply to my request for information regarding Farnham Parish records.
My family tree partly consist of the name MASON on my mother side of the family. I believe I have traced them back to the 16th century. However I am having some difficulty in confirming the details.  If it were possible for you to look up some of the information during one of your visits to the Surrey History Centre I would be extremely grateful. The only way I can think of to confirm the details I have  is by checking the births lists which should show the names of the parents. For fear of boring you the list I have is as follows.
Robert Mason b.1753 . married Jane Watson 1783 (in Ash.) He was the son of Robert Mason b.1727. married Mary Hone in 1751. He was the son of William Mason b.1693 who married Hannah Hedger in 1720. He was the son of John Mason b.1670. Wife unknown. He was the son of Edward Mason b.1645 who married Elizabeth Newland in 1667. He was the son of John Mason b.1611 who married Elisabeth Hole in 1638. He was the son of Thomas Mason b.1581. wife unknown. He was the son of Edward Mason b.circa 1555. he married Jone Parker 1n 1580.
All events took place in Farnham Surrey.
I know I ask a lot but if you could confirm the births/parents on only one or two I would be very grateful.

Regards

I'll try my best, but have not previously looked at records that old. Seems a challenge.

I might not visit for a week or two, but you're on my list!

Dudjac,

Fortunately, the Farnham records have been transcribed by the local history society. Rather than look at the parish registers, I have looked at the transcripts. In doing so, I have added other bits of info, but this puts a question mark over Edward Mason's mother as his father re-married once, or possibly twice.

I am going to look further if I have time left over next time I go.

Edward Mason
born
christened   (baptisms 1557-1560 missing, but no Masons noted between 1548 and 1562)
married   Jone Parker July 4 1580
buried

**Jone Mason, wife of Edw,  buried September 30 1603
**Robt Mason, son of Edw, buried October 22 1603
**Elenor Mason, d of Edw, buried October 23 1603
**John Mason, s Edw, buried November 5 1603
**John Mason, s Edw, buried December 13 1614
**Alice Mason, d Edw, buried November 8 1618

Thomas Mason (son of Edward Mason)
born
christened   January 17 1582, s Edw
married
buried

**infant of Thomas Mason buried March 20 1624

John Mason (son of Thomas Mason)
born
christened   September 1 1611 s. Tho
married   Eliz Hole January 24 1639            (just recorded as Eliz)
buried

**Eliz Mason, wife of John buried October 28 1640
**John Mason and Anne Turner married November 21 1642
**Margaret Mason, wife of John, buried June 5 1663

Edward Mason (son of John Mason)
born
christened   Edw. January 3 1646, s. John
married   Elizabeth Newland April 9 1667            (recorded as Edmd.)
buried

John Mason (son of Edward Mason)
born
christened   October 17 1670, s. Edw jnr.
married   (see note below)

**A John Mason from Farnham married an Ann Green from Frensham (in Frensham) on October 28 1710,
but there was also a John Mason christened in Farnham on 10 Dec 1681 who was the son of Robert.

William Mason (son of John Mason)
born
christened   October 31 1693 s. of John
married   Hannah Hedger January 26 1720            (transcribed as Kedger, which appears to be in error)
buried

Robert Mason (son of William Mason)
born
christened   September 15 1727 s. of John
married   Mary Hone January 6 1751
buried

Robert Mason (son of Robert Mason)
born
christened   May 18 1753, s. Robert
married   Jane Watson in Ash Oct 27 1783         both lived in Frimley
buried
----------

Cheers,

Hi Ray.
I cant thank you enough for the information you have gathered regarding my ancestors the MASONS. You have added considerably to the info I already had. Any further info you may find would be a bonus.
Again very many thanks.
