Pictures - OK tearing my hair out now!!

Im on a steep learning curve here and not sure I have gone about this the correct way. I have designed my index page in Microsoft Word, which I am pleased with, and included a few thumbnail photographs. All the files are stored on my computer as per the attached image.

I have uploaded the index.htm file which is showing on line

(patting myself on the back) BUT minus the thumbnails Huh

. I have tried everything to get them to show but still getting those little red crosses Angry

Which directory should they be uploaded to or have I done something dramatically wrong with the original index.htm file? Huh

Appreciate somebody steering me in the right direction.

As the irishman said when asked for directions.

I wouldn't start from here if I wanted to go there.

Your Microsoft Word has produced an XML page. That is a more complicated way of doing HTML, which they dreamed up for machines to write webpages. They say it is more logical than html.

That said, I have tried to asked your site for

www.footsteps.rootschat.net/index_files/image015.jpg

but all I get is error 404, file not found.

Are you sure you have uploaded the picture files to the index_files directory on your website ?

Hi SUe,

if you right-click on any image on your site, and then click on "properties", you will see the address where it thinks the images should be

For instance, on your home page the missing picture has the URL:
http://footsteps.rootschat.net/index_files/image021.jpg

so image021.jpg is expected to be in the directory \index_files

either use your file manager or FTP program to load the image there, or change the address in your program to where the image actually is

and remember to keepall names lower-case. If you load images021.JPG (for instance) Windows has no problms with that, but as you (your program) has said the name is images021.jpg, it will also say "Red cross" i.e "image not found" !!

according to the coding on your page the image files should be in the folder "index_files" (i.e. yours are coded as "index_files/image015.jpg")

However you should also ensure that the names of the images are EXACTLY as you have listed them. In the above example the file name should be
image015.jpg (as you have it in the coding) NOT Image015.jpg or image015.JPG
windows sees all of the above file names as the ssame file while the system that your website is on would see them as three different files.

OK .. this is where I was getting confused. I will now make a new directory called index_files and then lupoad the images into that.

You shouldn't need to create a new directory/folder .... from the screenshot above its already there. All (famous last words) you need to do is load your images into that folder using your FTP (file transfer) program

The screenshot was of files on my computer .... but Im happy made a new directory and uploaded the images and now I can see them online.

That was really quick and I have been playing around here for well over an hour!!
