REYNOLDS William 1803 Pertenhall, Bedfordshire
« on: Sunday 30 October 05 11:14 GMT (UK) »

Hi Listers,

I wonder if anyone could help me please.  I am looking for my William Reynolds born 1803 at Pertenhall, Bedfordshire.  After looking at my replies I found out that Pertenhall, sometime came under Huntingdon.

On the 1851 census there is a William Reynolds but the name of the place is Parkerhale Bedfordshire, is there such a place or should it read Pertenhall.

Also I have his birth and christening from the IGI as 1803 but when you look at the census's it is coming up 1804/1805 is this my William and 1804/1805 is only approx.

I do hope someone could help me with the name Parkerhale, as with me living up north and geography wasn't one of my strong subjects at school, I am a little confused

Thank you for your help

Regards

Hi Gillian

You really need to look at the census page, not the index in which the transcription errors can be horrendous.

The enumeration copy clearly has Pertenhale or Pertenhall, Beds. Ignore the index name Parkerhale.

The birth year in the index is arrived at by deducting the census age from the year of the census. His age on the census was actually 47. The census was taken on 30 March 1851 so 47 would have implied a birth 31 March 1803- 30 March 1804, but census ages are not always accurate, particularly within a year or two.

Hi David

Thank you very much for replying.  I keep looking at the name even with a magnifying glass, but sometimes it is very difficult to read properly.  I didn't know for sure whether there was a place called Parkerhale.  I have just looked at another census for a place Eynesbury Huntingdon, then on another census its been written Hensbury Huntingdon, so I went on Google and low and behold there are two different places.  No wonder people gets confused.

Thank you very much for your time and effort.

Regards
