Hertfordshire newspaper archives
« on: Sunday 30 October 05 16:09 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

Does anyone know of any online newspaper archives for Ware covering the dates between 1871 - 1881?
I am unable to go to the Hertfordshire and search for myself for the next few months but would like to find out how my Gr Gr Gr Grandfather lost one hand, would this be in the newspaper archives?

Hi Amy

Whether this event was recorded in the local newpapers of the time might depend to some extent on how newsworthy your ancestor's personal tragedy was.

The only Ware newspaper exclusive to the town was the Ware Patriot, but only 1833/4 survive.

The Herts Advertiser and Hertfordshire Mercury were both in print at the time, and it might be worth contacting them.
