I am trying to find a birth record for Elizabeth for around 1791.
On the 1851 census it said she was born in Uphall. Linlithgow...this was the first time in any record I had seen that.
Elizabeth married Thomas Galloway in Stirling in Jan 1807. I think they were both young. I have no info on where or when Thomas was born. I am wondering if he was also from the Uphall area?
It seems he was a baker and they moved around a lot. Some of his sons became bakers....wondering if his father was also a baker. Any other "Galloway" bakers out there? The "old" family story had her from Jura...ran off with the gardener.....not believing that now
They had Elizabeth in Dec of 1807 in Alloa, Mary 1809 in Edingburgh, Jean 1811 Mid Calder, Thomas 1813 Mid Calder, James 1814 Mid Calder, Janet 1819 Glasgow, Margaret 1822 Glasgow, Robert 1824 Glasgow and Helen 1829 in Hamilton.
Can anyone help me with this very thick brick wall of mine?
Thanks, Karen Glendora, CA

I too found that after I had posted the above.
Also found these children of John and Elisabeth McInlay Campbell:
Robert 20 July, 1781 Uphall
Elisabeth 28, Sept, 1783 Uphall
John 23 Feb, 1786 Uphall
George 5 Sept 1788 Uphall
Archbald 13 May 1790 Uphall
Marion 11 April 1794 Uphall
John 18 Jan 1802 Uphall (maybe first John has died)
It's just the age of Elisabeth I am concerned about.
On the 1841 census she is living with a son, James, in Hamilton where it says she is a "widow, pauper, 50" along with her youngest daughter, Helen......where I came up with her birth year being around 1791. A birth year of 1783 is an eight year difference.
On the 1851 census she is still in Hamilton, living with Helen and Helen's 2 year old son. This record says "wife, widow, 60, and not sure what this is: nil?, and this is where she was born first comes in...Uphall, Linlithgow".
Now if we go with the 1783 birth and parents...I can't find anything on Elisabeth McInlay. I did find a birth record for a John Campbell, born 29 Oct, 1749, Linlithgow, West Lothian to a Robert and Jean Carlaw Campbell.
I have always thought Thomas Galloway must have been born or lived close to her...ok just assuming
I did find a record for a Thomas Galloway born 6 May, 1781 in Fowlis Wester, Perth to a James and Mary Maltman Galloway.
