From Castletown (Queens County) Ireland COMPLETE THANKS
« on: Sunday 30 October 05 19:05 UTC (UK) »

I have a gggg grandma (Margaret Brophey) who was born c.1816 in Castletown, Laois (Queens County) Ireland.

She married my grandad William Carter, just prior to civil registration, in Cheshire, so i'm guessing she came to the UK late 20's/early 30's.

Would she be recorded on any ships coming into the country? Is this period too early for the "famine ships" that I heard about on tv the other day......

Thanks for any information.

Catherine,
You may be interested that I have a distant relative who married Margaret Brophy's daughter, Hannah Carter, in 1876, at Sutton, St James', Macclesfield.
Thomas Knowles, Hannah Carter, and other family members, then emigrated to New South Wales in 1883.
I am in correspondence with a lady from Queensland, who is the great-grand daughter of Thomas and Hannah and she will shortly be contacting you.  I'm sure she will have a few questions for you.
If you would like to know any more, please get back to me.

Bye for now,  Phil Knowles

Hi Phil and Ann!

Thankyou for contacting me!! I seem to be getting in touch with quite a few "cousins" recently!! Cant believe my luck  Smiley

I'll pm you my email address, which will make it easier than posting on here.

This is my link to William and Margaret. I also have census info on most of their children, as far as I could get anyway, no good when it comes to them emigrating, I get lost then!  Smiley I have Hannah and Thomas Knowles on the 1881 census, then nothing after that! I obviously got sidelined on another branch...
