Hi everybody, and greetings from Regina, Saskatchewan Canada. This is my first day on this site, found it during a general search. I have been able to trace my family roots back to Innerleithen and Galashiels and now I am stuck. Some important names in my tree: James Davidson m. Janet Nicol at Innerleithen 27/6/1788 They had children John b.1788, Michael b.1791, Marion b.1793, *James b.1796, Robert 1799 and finally William b. 1811 all born at Innerleithen. Short of a trip to that area (planned for 2006) how can I find a DOB and Date of Death for James. I have searched the Scotish government website to no avail. (hey isn't this fun)

I had a look at the memorial inscriptions published for Innerleithen and found this...
48. Jas Davidson/Innerleithen 3.6.1840 88 w Janet Nichol 5.11.1828 62 da Marion d 18(5)4 61 Michael D d Nether Horsburgh 14.12.1869 48 w Ann Tait d NZ aged 72
This book is transcribed in a shorthand form that I hate - but if it gets things published quicker - great.
I think it is fairly clear d = died da = daughter w = wife
I guess the 5 in brackets means it wasn't very clear?
Hope this helps, Pam :-)
