Gun Works in Stone ?
« on: Thursday 26 August 04 18:45 BST (UK) »

Can anyone confirm if there was a gunworks near Stone , Dartford around 1915. I have tried various directories etc without any luck.

Thank you in advance

Scatty,

You might find this useful for the Church  http://www.nwkfhs.org.uk/STONE___.HTM

I will check on the Gunworks, I think I read somewhere about the area during WW1. I know there was an Airfield where Joyce Green hospital was built, there was also a hospital mainly for allied troops from America and Australia, plus hospital ships moored on the Thames.

Scatty,

Have foound this  http://www.nra.nationalarchives.gov.uk/nra/searches/codocs.asp?CR=B6682 which sugests one being in the area. Need to check this a bit more. My Father in law used to work for Vickers in Dartford but it closed 10-15 years ago, he may know something.
