Rathvilla Parish Registers - WHELAN

My wife's 2nd great grandfather has recently been discovered to be a John WHELAN, born in Rathvilla about 1827.  In the 1861 census he appears at the 5th Royal Irish Dragoon's barracks at Aldershot, a private, aged 34.

His wife is Fanny BEEBY aged 25, born in Castle Donington, Leicestershire.  They have one child, my wife's great-grandmother, Mary Ann WHELAN aged 8 months.  I have Fanny's maiden name from the birth certificate for Mary Ann, which I have already obtained.

I am trying to find any more information on John WHELAN, especially his parentage and possible siblings.  If anyone has the means to assist with this search I'd be most appreciative!
