Sailing Records 1841-1868 Sellwood

Hello,
Can someone give me some advice as to where and how to look for sailing to America records for the years 1841 -1868?  William Sellwood chr 1802 was in the 1841 census for Bucklebury, but by 1868 when his sister Caroline also emigrated to America, sailing from Liverpool I understand from descendants, he was already there. He is not in Berkshire in  1851 or 1861 censuses.
William is credited with having a son William born in 1831 who is not with him and his wife Elizabeth Ann Clements in 1841, so I am trying to find out when and where he sailed and who was with him.
