My great grandfather Hugh Baird Hyslop was born in Sorn Ayr in 1850. he was a soldier in the British army. he married Margaret Handrahan from dungarvan Co waterford Ireland and returned to Scotland. the couple had two children that we know of. Margaret and Daniel. All we know about him is he died in Sorn in 1900, we know nothing of his wife margaret or indeed his Daughter Margaret. If anyone can make a connection we would be delighted to hear from you.

Hi canted,
Welcome to Rootschat.
Have you tried http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk ? It is a pay per view site but very reasonable.
I ask because the 1900 death registry for Hugh should have his wife's name including maiden name and also indicate if she was still alive. If she wasn't then you should be able to find her death in Scotland and this would give her parent's names including mother's maiden name (but only if known by the informant).
This could then give you a break throuhg to the Irish records.
Good Luck, Pam
