Thanks for the offer of a lookup.

I am looking for the burial site of JOHN MACKENZIE and his wife ISOBEL STEWART of KILLEARNAN PARISH.  JOHN was known as "JOHN MACKENZIE, BUTCHER of KILCOY, on the baptism record of his grandchildren in 1795+." So he died after that date.  Looking for confirmation of their burial in Killearnan Burial Ground.  Any help appreciated....

There are 3 listed and one listed with an Isobel McKenzie his spouse -  he died 1800 and she died 1873 -  farmer is the Occ.  I'll look through my other books and see what I can find

Weemary:

You said that JOHN MACKENZIE died in 1801 and his wife Isobel died in 1873. Is 1873 the correct date for Isobel, becasue that is 72 years after the death of JOHN MACKENZIE? Can yoou check the date for Isobel again, becasue if you mis-typed the date for Isobel, then this may be the husband and wife I am loolking for!

Thanks for your time and effort.

Took me ages to find it again -  it is listed under Mckenzie and not Mackenzie -  hope it is  your family

It's number 252 in the MI book  Killearnan Churchyard Black Isle

[Flat Stone]

In memory of John McKenzie, farmer in Wellhouse of Kilcoy who died  2nd Jan 1800 aged 70 years; and of Isobel McKenzie, his spouse who dies 4th march 1783 aged 55 years; also in memory of Kenneth McKenzie, son of Colin McKenzie, farmer in Redcastle who died 19th march 1818 aged 21 years; and of Duncan his son who dies 10th August aged 36 years. This stone is erected by Colin McKenzie & Barbra McLennan.

Interesting my family were in redcastle and my 3x grt grandfather was the oldest tenant to die on the state of Kilcoy   our families must have know each other

sorry mary, i dont know much about my beatons at all - they are an elusive lot!!

i'll start with margaret beaton as i know most about her.

margaret beaton born c1846 (apparently in forres/moray area according to all census records i can find)
she married william fletcher in 1864 in glasgow. (i have info on her husband  & children too, but i will stick to beatons for now)
margaret died in glasgow in 1893.
her parents are listed on her marriage and death certificates as kenneth beaton shoemaker and christina macdonald.

after much searching, (and a shove in the right direction from libindx website) i found a brother for margaret - peter beaton c1852, and managed to find out a little about his family too.

i have only found one other sibling for these two - james. the only other thing i know about him is that he registered his father's death in 1869. at the time james was a railway Huh(something) at ballinluig in perthshire.

kenneth beaton died in 1869 at the northern infirmary in inverness.
his parents are given as duncan beaton a farm greive and mary clark, both deceased.

christina macdonald died in 1879 at 16 king street inverness. informant was peter, their son.
her parents are given as alexander macdonald farm servant and catherine cumming, both deceased.

there is one other possibilty for another child for kenneth and christina which i found on the igi, but it is a submitted record and not exactly next door to forres where margaret was born. (but then it is not a million miles away either).

KENNETH BEATON
  Male
 Birth:  20 JUL 1843
Christening:  08 AUG 1843   Killearnan, Ross And Cromarty, Scotland
  Father:  KENNETH BEATON
  Mother:  CHRISTIAN MC DONALD

kind regards,
Lorna.

p.s - sorry for hijacking your thread.........  Embarrassed

WeeMary:

Thanks for the information.  I have a couple of questions:

1) What does MI stand for?
2.) You listed a Duncan McKenzie who died 10th August aged 36 years. What was the year of his death?
3.) You listed John McKenzie, farmer in "Wellhouse of Kilcoy". What or where is Wellhouse? Was it, and is it today, a small hamlet/town, or was it and is it today, a farmhouse?
4.) My John McKenzie is listed as a "butcher in Kilcoy". His children were baptism in Urray Parish. Is there a cemetery connected with Urray Parish? And, if so, are there records of the gravestones?

Thanks for your help!

Monumental Inscriptions

It didn't say

3.) You listed John McKenzie, farmer in "Wellhouse of Kilcoy". What or where is Wellhouse? Was it, and is it today, a small hamlet/town, or was it and is it today, a farmhouse?

Sorry I don't know -  it could be the name of the farm

4.) My John McKenzie is listed as a "butcher in Kilcoy". His children were baptism in Urray Parish. Is there a cemetery connected with Urray Parish? And, if so, are there records of the gravestones?

Sorry don't know that either
