Hi all,
I am completely stuck on my JOSOLYNE ancesters prior to 1780, so I thought I would post this message in the hope that someone else might have an interest as well.
I am looking for all spelling variations from all parts of Essex (and Herts) and all dates.
There is a great JOSLIN website run by Peter Joslin (Google a variation and you will come across it). However, I still can't get further back with my spelling.
If anyone out there has a connection it would be great to hear from you.
Anna

I don't have any connection with JOSLIN name but recently I did some work on Tilbury-juxta-Clare (which does not seem to be included in IGI). I came across these burials in period from 1761-1812: Lydia d of John JOSLIN 1810 Hezekiah s of john JOSLIN 1802 Samuel JOSLIN 1792 Thomas JOSLIN s of John JOSLIN 1786 all in Essex RO ref: D/P 164/1/2 fiche 1 of 1 I didn't come across any baptisms though in that same period

I did the work on the Tilbury parish as part of a systematic effort to trace some missing links to some of my own families. I read that there is a rectorial link between the Tilbury parish and a parish called Ovington, in Essex. (There seem to be about 5 such place names in England but that's another can of worms). Both have Colchester postcodes and I have already noted some instances of families switching their baptisms and burials between the two. I have started on the Ovington parish and I'll let you know if any J....s turn up there.

Hi Anna
You say you can't get back before 1780 but I wondered where you last have a definite sighting of one of your Josolyne ancestors?
I have come across quite a few when trawling Essex parishes, so if you have a particular area you are interested in it would help lines of enquiry!
The IGI for Essex is very poor indeed. with vast chunks missing. Hopefully it will be added to eventually.

Hi Anna,
Did you think to try a random search in the IGI to see what Joslin name variants came up? In case you didn't here are what I found, for searching I used William Joslin 1760 + & - 20 years and limited the search to Essex.
Joscelyn, Joslin, Joscelyne, Joselyn, Josselyn, Josling & Jocelyn.
Probably, random searches with other first names, years & counties may come up with even more variations.
Whilst trawling the online Chelmsford St Mary the Virgin PRs recently, I noticed Joslins with various spellings. I don't have any connections (so far) to the Joslin name but because way back at school in Chelmsford I knew a Joslin, they caught my eye.
Regards
