1851 Cheshire Please
« on: Sunday 23 October 05 14:56 BST (UK) »

Hi

this is a bit of a long shot so will understand if no-one is able to help.  Am hoping someone has the 1851 Cheshire with a search function / index.

Am looking for the following:

William Dinning - Woodturner.  In his 60s/70s.
Rachel Dinning - Wife. In her 50s/60s.

In 1841 they were resident in Bilston, Staffs but have left the county by 1851.  William was dead by 1858 so a high chance he went pre 1851 and Rachel may be re-married.  Have been unable to trace a death or a likely marriage though!

Their daughter moved from Staffs to the Middlewich area in 1842, and then to Wybunbury.  From there her family moved up to Cumbria in time to appear on the 1851 in Carlisle. No sign of them in Carlisle in 1851 though so am hopeful for Cheshire.

Am really hoping to find them as need to try and locate their county or country of birth (suspect Ireland) - their daughter, also Rachael was my ggg grandmother.  I have her baptism record in Wolverhampton, but she was aged 7 when baptised and her parents, according to the 1841, were not from Staffs so good chance she was not either.  Rachael lies about her age and gives a different place of birth on each census.  & I can't find her first marriage either although now have the children's birth certificates.  Beginning to think this is one of those families that just don't like official records!

Hi Sue,

The only William Dinning in Cheshire for the 1851 census is a 4yr old lad with his parents Thomas and Elizabeth who are from Durham.

I checked also for Rachel Dinning but there were none at all  Undecided

Sorry I couldn't be more help

Hi Jenny

thanks for looking for me - this family are driving me up the wall!

I now have a possible lead in Wolverhampton Workhouse - the surname is slightly different though and I'm not overley convinced!

Thanks again
