One of my ancestors were in The Borough Gaol Liverpool according to 1851 census. I have discoverd that this was in Great Howard Street. It was named after the philanthropist John Howard. It replaced The Old Tower Water Street. It was built 1786. The gaol was enumerated for this census in Piece No 107/2178 part 4,Folio Pages 787 to 814 923 prisoners. Hope this is of interest to someone. Victoria
