Robert and Frances Jarrett
« on: Thursday 03 November 05 16:46 GMT (UK) »

Seeking any information on Robert and Frances Jarrett.

They lived in Melton Constable circa 1902 or possibly later and I believe they lived at sometime in Astley Terrace. So possibly he was working on the M & GN Railway in some capacity.

Any suggestions as to how I might get further  I would be grateful

Are you tracing them forward in time, or back?

If back in time, then the 1901 census is a good place to start so that you get their ages and places of birth. The URL for the 1901 census is http://www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

If forward in time - how old were they? Try the 1901 census to find their ages and if they could have been having children in the early 20th century. Was he young enough to fight in WW1? Try the CWGC site to see if he died http://www.cwgc.org/cwgcinternet/search.aspx and The National Archives to see if he served in the forces and was awarded medals http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/

Directories are a good way of locating families. If you cannot get to a record centre which has a decent run, facsimile copies can be purchased from many companies, including Archive CD Books, S&N Genealogy, Stepping-Stones

If you have an age, you might be able to make a rough guess as to the time period in which he died. Try searching the index of wills and admons - it's a sueful resoruce in itself, if you find he left a will then get a copy via the Probate Registry in York.
