Rosaleen,

The IGI has an entry for christening of John Lucas on  25 MAY 1817   Holbrook, Suffolk with parents listed as John Lucas & Mary.

There is also a Samuel Lucas christened 28 NOV 1813  Holbrook, Suffolk &
Harriet Lucas born 02 SEP 1825 ; christened 13 NOV 1825  Holbrook, Suffolk

both to parents John & Mary

regards John

Thank you John for that information.  I already have this it is whether there is a John Lucas being the John Lucas born 1819 father is registered anywhere and/or whether the John [1819] had any brothers or sisters that we could do a trace on?

All this help is much appreciated.

Rosaleen

My great x 3 grandmother was (MARY) ANNE LUCAS born circa 1805 at Holbrook. Unfortunately, I've been unable to confirm her parentage as yet (the LUCAS families of Holbrook and the neighbouring villages having been quite prolific).

However, in attempting to do so, a fellow family researcher has noted seven baptisms for the children of JOHN LUCAS & MARY LUCAS née DRIVER from the Holbrook PRs between 1811 & 1819; these include two JOHNs baptised in 1817 and 1819 respectively.

If you think that further details would assist your research let me know.

Thanks for all the information.  I have obtained this information as I visited Ipswick Record Centre and have now gone back to about 1732 but unfortunately cannot find any of the Lucas' on the 1841 census except Robert b 1812 Holbrook, they all seemed to have vanish until 1851, seems very strange I have gone through the census separately for all the counties also.
For you information the John baptised 1817 died in 1818.
Also it has on the certificate that John b 1781 was a widower when he married Mary Driver.  His parents were John b 1747 Shotley and married Mary Martin birth and death I do not know and his parents were I think Thomas and Cheney/Cheny/Chienie Courtnall c 16/7/1704 Shotley and married 1732 Chelmondiston.   I have applied for the certificates from the Ipswich Records Office.   I have found all this on the IGI site and then confirmed it at Ipswich
Thanks very much for all your help and assistance - it is very much appreciated.

Rosaleen

I’m glad to learn that you’ve been able to make so much progress with your LUCAS research over the past year.

You mention that JOHN was a widower at the time of his marriage to MARY DRIVER, and I do have some information relating to his first wife, MARY MUDD. According to my notes, taken from the Holbrook PRs, JOHN LUCAS of Holbrook parish & MARY MUDD of Harkstead parish were married after banns (24 June, 1 & 8 July 1804). Although the banns are recorded in the Holbrook PR the marriage itself is not and it is possible the ceremony was conducted at Harkstead (although this may be difficult to verify as the Harkstead PRs remain jealously guarded). MARY died in January 1806 and was buried at Holbrook on 24 January 1806.

The evidence suggests that my great x 3 grandmother (MARY) ANNE LUCAS was the daughter of JOHN and MARY MUDD as the baptism of ‘MARY daughter of JOHN & MARY LUCAS’ is recorded on 1 October 1805 at Holbrook.

If this is the case, she would have been the half-sister of the JOHN (baptised 8 June 1819 at Holbrook) you have been researching. However, this remains to be verified and I would be interested to know if you have discovered the dates of the deaths of JOHN LUCAS (born 1781) and MARY DRIVER as this might help to prove the theory.

If you are interested in corresponding further (which I hope you are) feel free to contact me at

Hello

Love to correspond.   The information I have is that John b 1781 Woolverstone was buried 23/1/1833 at Holbrook and married Mary Driver 9/10/1810 -  No information on Mary Driver other than b 9/3/1788 I think need confirmation of her parents.
John b 1819 Holbrook died 1/2/1910 at Gravesend and married Mary Ann Ives 18/11/1844 who was c 25/8/1823 Gravesend and died on 27/12/1893.
If you need any more information, please let me know.

Kind regards   Rosaleen

Hello  Nice to hear from you.   Unfortunately I do not think we are related as my Thomas Lucas married Cheny Courtnall christened 16.7.1704 Shotley not able to find Thomas' birth or parents and they had four children Danie c1738 Freston, Samuel c1745 Shotley, John c1747, Shotley who married Mary Mudd they had a child Mary Anne c1805 Holbrook.  Mary [Mudd] died 1806 and John married Mary Driver b1788 Holbrook and they had Mary c1779 Woolverstone, John c1781 Woolverstone, Thomas c1782 Woolverstone, Deborah c1784 Woolverstone and William c2785 Woolverstone.

Please let me know if you find anything else as I have come to a full stop with the earlier Lucas' as I the only way I can research them is by coming to Suffolk and unable to find anything on Thomas born about 1715.   Good luck with your research and thank you for contacting me.
