Baptism by Off Min
« on: Tuesday 08 November 05 19:57 GMT (UK) »

Two of the baptisms I found today in the Thame parish register were carried out by S W Bartlett Off. Min according to the register fiche.  the date was 14 Apr 1848.

I know he was not the Vicar or Curate because they were carrying out other baptisms at the same period.  These were the only baptisms he performed and though it is probably irrelevant the children were those of the parish clerk one of them age two.

Any knowledge what Off. Min means would be welcome.

I would think Officiating Minister. Probably because he wasn't the usual vicar or curate - if they were double or treble booked for baptisms that day they probably called in someone from a nearby parish.

That would be my guess anyway.
