Still searching can anyone help?

I`m still searching for any information about my very elusive gt grandfather
STEPHEN GEOGHAN

It is assumed that he may have been born in Galway, but not sure about that, he and his father were master tailors. Father`s name was Lawrence

That is all I know about Stephen, he appears in the 1871 census for Stafford, with his wife and children, then nothing until 1901, when he was in Liverpool.

By 1881 his wife Louisa (nee Paddison sometimes recorded as PaTTison)
were in the Stoke on Trent workhouse.
Louisa remarried in 1885  to Alfred Davis.
However, I recently discovered that Stephen died in 1913 in Liv erpool, so did Louisa assume he had died, perhaps he had returned to Ireland before 1881, had she been deserted? on entering the workhouse she was described as married, but stated  to be a widow when remarrying, I wonder why she thought Stephen had died? did someone inform, her of this, or had she thought he may have died in Ireland?
In the 1901 census Stephen stated he was unmarried.
All this has become a mystery and I long for some information about him, can anyone help...... Huh?
