I am trying to find out more details of Elizabeth Wanklin who according to the records at Herefordshire Record Office drowned in a pool at Michaelchurch in June 1838. The records state that her parents were Thomas and Mary.
I have purchased the death certificate but when it arrived this morning it states: Betsy Wankling died 9 June 1838, drowned parents Thomas and Elizabeth Wankling.
I know the spellings of Wanklin are different as are the childs first names - but Betsy could be short for Elizabeth. The ages on the record are both the same - 1year and 9 months.
Any ideas of how I can find out which mothers name is correct?
Have you looked for her baptism? Did she have any brothers or sisters? If there are any younger children you can get a birth certificate and then you will get the mother's full name. The 1841 census might help. There are some Wanklin entries on www.familysearch.org too. Andrea

Thanks for the reply - there are a few brothers and sisters all with the parents Thomas and Mary. Elizabeth is the middle child of seven so Thomas had not remarried or anything like that. I have checked out the familysearch website and this has the same info tha tI had. maybe the person who typed out the copy of the certificate got it wrong - I will check with them.
