Can anyone please tell me where to look for the marriage of John Davenport and Hannah circa 1809 in Sale/Ashton on Mersey? I can't find it on the IGI, in fact, I can't find any other reference to them other than the birth of their children Mary 1810, Jane 1819 and Hannah 1822. It seems such a big age gap. On Hannah's marriage certificate in Manchester 1843 a James Davenport is a witness could it be a brother or cousin?
John was a hatter by trade, would that mean that he worked in a factory or at home? Cannot find either John or Hannah on the 1851 census so can't verify where they were born and must presume they had died.
Is there a kind soul out there who could please help me solve this puzzle? Where and when did John and Hannah marry and die?
I have found in a Cheshire index of marriages one for a John Davenport and Hannah Hampson 20/9/1803 at St Martins Ashton-on-Mersey. You can obtain the full details from the actual parish register by Emailing the record office at the address on the link below.
Where were the children born? This will give us an idea of where to search for a death.
The children were christened at St Martin's so it looks like the right family. I am hoping that when the 1841 census comes on line I will find John and Hannah and it will establish where they were born.
Is there a Cheshire Index of Births if so where would I buy it?
Just to let you know you were spot on with the information you sent me. I received the copy of the marriage record and the details on it are amazing, it has now opened up a whole new avenue of questions that need answering.
