Hi,
I'm hoping for a little help from someone with some local knowledge of the area here.
I have an ancestor whose address, in the early 1800's, is 'The Lawnes, Cottingham'.
I believe that now the Lawns is part of the University of Hull campus, but what would it have been at the time - ie. was it an area, street or house?
Sasha.

A quarter of a century ago, I used to know a young lady who was then at Hull Uni and I have a feeling that the Lawns was a large Victorian house (rather akin to a large vicarage) made over to student accommodation. The name rang a bell but so many moons have passed that I may be imagining things.

Hi Sasha, Hull uni is actually on Cottingham Rd. Cottingham is about 1 and a half Mile's North.

Hi Chrispenz,
Thanks a million for the map.
It's just about the period I'm looking at as well. I'm going to try to print it off so I can have a good look at it.
Sasha.

Hi Sasha, apart from all the info on Cottingham on genuki, Cottingham has it's own web site which has recently been revamped, it's www.cottinghamuk.co.uk might be worth a look.
The Lawns is still used as accommodation for the Uni of Hull.
