SAMUEL FAMIILY, NSW
« on: Sunday 29 August 04 17:59 BST (UK) »

Please can somebody advise me.......my two great great uncles and their wives and children left South Wales, Uk for Wollongong, News South Wales around 1915ish.  They were Edward (Ted) Samuel and his wife Mary Jessie (nee Holborn) and William (Bill) Samuel and his wife Thyer. Both couples had children before they left for NSW.  They initially lived in Wollongong but where would I start to look for their desendants?  Thanks for any help.         Grin

Hi Alison

If you posted on the Immigrants to Australia board, more folks would probably see your post - and they could well have more information.

I've checked the online immigrant files I know about but cannot find your families. The NSW BDM records are online at
http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au - follow the links through family history to search the indexes. I found a death for a William in 1922 - but not near Wollongong. The death index is only to 1945.
There are 3 marriages for your family name in Wollongong in the period to 1945 viz

19667/1928  SAMUEL  EDWARD R  OSMOND  ALICE E V  WOLLONGONG
16967/1933  SAMUEL  IDRIS  THOMPSON  THELMA M  WOLLONGONG
14525/1936  SAMUEL  ALREMA  EASTON  EDITH  WOLLONGONG

The only way to check the parents is to buy the certificates.

Thyer is such an unusual name, it would seem a good one to use for any searching.

good luck with the search
Trish

Hi Alison,
the reason you couldn't find Thyer Samuel is because Gran's full name was Bethia.
I'm Ros and I'm Idris and Thel's daughter- hi cous!!
I have been trying to find somewhere to start on the family in Wales for a long time.
I have 1 brother still living and neices and nephew with families from my sister.
I am married with 6 children 2 married and 1 with a partner.
I still live in Uncle Bills (dad's Brother- married Edith Eason) house, we bought it just before we married in 1974 as Bill was remarrying(widowed).
My children are Rhiannon married to Lloyd +1/2, Ben married to Vicki+1/4, Megan with Mark, son Sebastian, Elise, Amy and Fiona. Husband Steve
Where are you? Have you traced any of the family in the US?
