Looking for a Book
« on: Sunday 06 November 05 20:16 GMT (UK) »

Would appreciate any help in finding a Book called "The Bayly Case" edited by H J wilson of the Auckland Star,  and printed by the Waverly Press. I think it came out about 1934, it is about a famous murder in NZ. One of the Detectives
who helped solve the crime was a relative, would be grateful for any information on where I could buy copy. Smiley

If you are still looking, I have this book. Just started reading it and doing a google search and found your thread. Take me a month or so to read it, and then I will sell it. Let me know if you still need a copy.

Hi Mallow

Whilst I do not have a copy of the book you seek I do have two books relating to the history of the New Zealand Police which contain references to Detective Tom Allsop as well as photographs ( albeit  poor reproductions).  The titles of these books are:

- "The History of Policing in New Zealand Volume Four", A Policeman's Paradise ?, Policing a Stable Society 1918-1945.  Author Graeme Dunstall, published by Dunmore Press in 1999.

- "Without Fear or Favour, 150 years Policing Auckland 1840-1990. Author Owen J Sherrett.

I have sent you a pm with fuller details.

Of interest is your user name linked with Mallow in County Cork which is some 10 miles approx due east of Kiskeam?

Kiskeam is the birth place of my paternal grandmother Annie/Nancy O/Callaghan circa 1860.

Hi Mallow

The spelling of Allsop instead of Allsopp is my typing error.

Have you sighted the postings from Mike A on the RootsChat County Cork page relating to Ballincollig, the name of Allsop of England is mentioned in some of the postings, this may interest you.

Do you know about Tom's marriage, if not I may have information about that and also their probates.

Hi agian Mallow. Finished reading The Bayly Case. Detective Allsopp was really the main character in the investigation. It is very thorough on the investigation and trial and he features throughout. I am going to sell it so let me know if you want it. I can sell it through Ebay or TradeMe in New Zealand if you prefer (and only allow you to bid).
