Clacher/Dawson
« on: Thursday 09 June 05 10:05 BST (UK) »

I am looking for information on Malcolm Clacher who married Janet Dawson on 9th March, 1821.
Their oldest son Alexander was christened on 28th December, 1823 at Campsie, Stirlingshire.   Their youngest son Malcolm was christened on 14th April, 1832 also at Campsie, Stirlingshire.
I therefore think it likely that Malcolm and Janet were living in the Campsi area when they were married.
Any information (parents of Malcolm and Janet etc) would be welcome.

Wedding details of my ggg grandfather to Janet Dawson on 9th March 1821 are in OPR of Barony, Glasgow. He is named as Malcolm Martin Clachan. I have spent 20 years trying to find when this man was born or when he died. By 1861 Janet Dawson had remarried to an Irish labourer called John Ward so he may well have died before statutory records began in 1855.

That is good news.   I had the date of Marriage but had assumed that it was in the Campsie area.

Have you seen the OPR and, if so, does it give any details of the parents of either or both?

TO be honest - I've forgotten! Pretty sure I must have. Might fork out a tenner to make sure. Most OPR's don't tend to give much information - usually bride's father if anything in my experience, so not too hopeful. (Gary)
