Umm Have just read this post.
Do you have details on this Catherine Adamson?
My gt grandmother was named Catherine Adamson - that was her married name. She was born Catherine Wilson in Aberdeen in 1827.
She was married in 1846 to Mark Adamson in Aberdeen and they had 2 children. Mark (supposedly) drowned around sometime after the 1851 census, and Catherine remarried in 1855 to my gt gt grandfather John Thompson.
Catherine had 1 more son, and in 1859 the family emigrated to NZ. In 1860 they left NZ and went to Australia, but returned to NZ in 1861. John Thompson drowned on the voyage back to NZ.
The dates do not fit your dates but my Catherine Adamson was in Australia briefly in 1860-61.
Oh yes, and I do know of one descendent of Catherine Adamson who currently lives in Australia (I think Sydney) - although she was actually born in NZ.

Hi Jenn,
Regarding the "Catherine Adamson", if you Google - Catherine Adamson, you'll find a site which tells the story, and gives details of the ship. Should you have problems in finding the site, I'll give you the web address. It's one of those which is very long to type out

Hi Burrow Digger,
If you enter Ship - Catherine Adamson into Google you'll find several sites concerning the ship. The URL of two are: maritime.heritage.nsw.gov.au/public/site_view.cfm?site_id=1923 mariners.records.nsw.gov.au/1856/02/003cat.htm
In another site, "As senior warden of the Light, Pilot and Navigation Board, John Lamb (1790-1862) conducted the inquiry into the loss of the Catherine Adamson." I'll make an attempt to discover the lady after whom the ship was named.

As the ship was built at Aberdeen, the local newspaper may mention her launch and who she was named after. The Aberdeen Central Library has an extensive collection of newspapers.
