Does anyone know where I can find the records for people born in Green Drove, Gedney? I am looking for Edward Smith c1850, born in a gipsy van, his father was a horsebreaker/tinker from the North of England. He married Sara Ann Hull, an acrobat whose family used to go round farm shows. I cannot find either of them in any early records. His son, Albert Hull Smith was born at the 3 Fishes Pub, Welches Dam, c1883. Any help appreciated. Margaret3

Do you have access to the censuses? I see Sarah is born Whitwick, Leicestershire (1891 census) so is this her?

To answer my own question, yes this is the family because in 1881 living with Edward Smith and Sarah in Whitwick is a Mahala Hull, her sister from 1871 census - 1881 RG11/3143 Folio 61 Page 43

This is my first foray into searching. My grandfather was Albert Hull Smith and today Ifound an Albert Hull Smith in the census in welches Dam, which is nearChatteris where my father was born.my father was one of his sons-Horace. I am interested in finding more ,this is my first day looking!!! How are you connected? Are you a relative of mine? From the other postings I think I am on the right track as was told of a gypsy connection and a circus performer. I cannot find a marriage listed for Albert and Frances, did they ever marry? I believe her maiden name was Bedford.
