Where in Monaghan
« on: Monday 07 November 05 13:00 UTC (UK) »

William Hamilton and Elizabeth Grahame, two boys that I know of are :-

Alexander b about 1823.
George b about 1831.

Both Alexander and George are on the 1851 Census in Glasgow Scotland, giving place of birth as  Monaghan, Ireland.

Does anyone know of this family? and where in Monaghan they came from?
Surely with 8 years between the boys there must be other children? Who?

Hiya Alan

Whilst your ancestors were in Glasgow in the 1850s it might do no harm to look at Griffiths Valiation of Ireland ... Monaghan .. 1858-60 The family may have had relations still living in Ireland. Looking at Alexanders, Georges and Williams may help. There are two Alexanders on the list. If the Hamilton and Grahame surnames appear in the same parish and townland it could be worthwhile doing a bit of research in that area.
