Hi,
Can anyone help with the 1901 census.
I am looking for
Milligan, Ernest Henry Marcus. He would have been 22 in 1901. Born Belfast
I would hope he was training to be a doctor or working as a doctor.
Thanks Sue

Hi,
sorry it has taken me so long to reply. Christmas and all that.....
Ernest Henrty Marcus Milligan was the son of Seaton Forrest Milligan and Charlotte Elizabeth Burns.
I have been able to trace back the Burns side, but on the Milligan side have only Ernest and his parents. Ernest was one of 10 children, but I don't have places of birth for any others.
what I do know is that Ernest married Sarah McMullen and they moved to Derbyshire where he practiced as a GP.
They do not appear on the 1901 English census, so I think they must have still been in Ireland. This would also leave be to believe that Ernest trained as a doctor in Ireland.
Ernest's birth certificate gives a date of birth 13 Oct 1878 and address of No 1 Royal Terrace, Belfast
Not sure if this gives you anything else to work on from the street directory, but if not, thanks so much for trying for me.
Sue

Hi Anthony,
Yes we are definitely tracing back from Seaton and Charlotte.I'm not sure which religion, although I suspect they would be protestant.
Charlotte Elizabeth Burns - parents were Letitia Alcorn and Samuel Burns.
Incidently Ernest's sister was the Northern Irish poet Alice Milligan.
If you could get any more detail I would be really grateful.

Hi Anthony,
I don't have a Benjamin Alcorn in my tree, I guess he could be related, but at the moment I don't have a connection.
Thanks for your help

Hi Anthony,
That is brilliant, they are all siblings of Ernest Henry Marcus Milligan, My husband's Great Grandfather. We have no other details on them other than names, so to get their marriage details is wonderful.
Thank you very much.

Going through old posts and noticed this one. As Anthony has deleted the information he had posted I'm not sure if the following has been mentioned before but will post just in case it hasn't been.
According to IGI [and Pedigree Resource File] on www.familysearch.org:
Children of Seaton Milligan and Charlotte Burns: 1. Charlotte Elizabeth born 17 Mar.1864 Omagh district, Co. Tyrone [died 1916]- not born 1861 as posted above- since 1864 is start of civil registration 1864 is more likely. 2. son born 4 Oct.1865 Omagh district [Forest B. 1865-1875] 3. Alice Letitia born 14 Sept.1866 Omagh district 4. William Hanna born 20 Dec.1871 Co. Tyrone 5. George Fredrick born 5 Apr.1873 Co. Tyrone 6. Margaret Stewart Boyd born 19 Oct.1877 Co. Tyrone PRF also lists Edith M. 1867, Seaton KB 1869, Evelyn 1874-1902, Kath 1875, Charles Forest 1883.

1901 census will eventually be online on National Archives site after they have all of 1911 put online. Meanwhile there are only a few bits online at the moment. If you go to Antrim Resources board (www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,330.0.html) there is a thread for Antrim Census Records: www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,369523.0.html
1901 census is available a few places like PRONI and through local LDS libraries (either in stock or to order) but you need to know the address to get the correct microfilm.
