« on: Monday 21 September 09 01:00 UTC (UK) »

Hi, does anyone have any info on George Lloyd, b. abt 1825 in Whittington, Shropshire England.  George married Martha ?, b. abt 1826 in Bunbury, Cheshire, England, year unknown.  In 1878 George Lloyd was an Inn Keeper (name of Inn unknown). George and Martha had at least two children George Lloyd, b. 1852 in Leasowe, Birkenhead Cheshire and Annie Lloyd birth date unknown.  Thanks for your help. Vicki

Extracted christening records from IGI:

George LLOYD, son of George LLOYD and Elizabeth, chr. 14 Mar 1852, Wallasey, Cheshire.

Possible siblings:

Thomas - 11 Mar 1851, Wallasey, Cheshire
Sarah Anne - 13 Nov 1853, Wallasey, Cheshire
Philip - 9 Sep 1855, Wallasey, Cheshire

Off to hunt....

I found this possibility for Philip in 1861:

RG9/2672; Folio 9; Page 12
14 Dale St, Moss Bank, Liverpool

John STACEY - Head - 44 - Bank Keeper - Alton, Hants
Jane STACEY - Wife - 41 - East Cowton, Yorks
John STACEY - Son - 11 - Scholar - Liverpool
Frances STACEY - Dau - 12 - Scholar - Liverpool
Philip LLOYD - Visitor - 5 - Scholar - Bidston, Cheshire

(Bidston is near Wallasey.)

Jane has the same (non-local) birthplace as George's wife Elizabeth, and it looks very likely that she was actually Philip's aunt:

Marriages Jun 1844
CANSFIELD   Jane
STACEY   John
W Derby 20 817

Marriages Dec 1850
CANSFIELD   Elizabeth
LLOYD   George
W. Derby 20 951

From the Cheshire Parish Register database http://www.csc.liv.ac.uk/~cprdb/

Elizabeth, daughter of George LLOYD (coachman) and Elizabeth, born 5 March 1857, christened 19 July 1857, Bidston, Cheshire.   (Additional information: Leasowe Castle.)

Also a possible death for George's first wife Elizabeth:

Elizabeth LLOYD (aged 37), buried 4 January 1861, Bunbury, Cheshire

The IGI has extracted christening records for 12 children of Philip CANSFIELD and Ann, christened at East Cowton, Yorkshire:

Jane - 5 Feb 1819

Mary - 14 Jan 1821
Ann - 8 Jul 1822
Elizabeth - 11 Dec 1823
Anthony - 8 Jun 1825
Harriet - 22 Oct 1826
Isabella - 29 Nov 1828
Hannah - 2 Jan 1831
Philip - 11 May 1832
Maria - 4 Oct 1835
Eleanor - 25 Nov 1837
Richard - 13 May 1839

There are also likely records for Philip Sr's birth and marriage - East Cowgate seems to be well-covered on the IGI.

It looks like they might at sometime been employed in Leasow castle.Which as far as i can  remember at the moment was the only building on the leasow road (to be) for miles around at the time Grin I will have a look in some directories for you. There are lots of Lloyd's in them and lots in wallasey right time.

Thank you very much for the information Manchester Rambler and Celia.  I will follow up on your info.  If these are the right Lloyds and I think they are because Cansfield or as spelt in one relatives name Consfield is also in my tree. Now, after over a year of searching the Lloyd side of the family I seem to be going in the right direction.

thanks a million

Leasowe and Moreton were originally part of the parish of Bidston.  St Oswalds being the church. As the crow flies there is not much distance between the castle and Bidston although these days there is a railway and various busy roads, not to mention thousands of houses that get in the way.

They probably lived in the stable part of the buildings which later were made into a restaurant but I am unsure if it is used now?

In later years, Leasowe and Moreton were incorporated into the county borough of Wallasey.

I had a look in a few directories but couldn't find any Lloyd with the right occupations at all. That might be because they moved around often,so didn't have an address of there own.
That means the wont be in the directories.
