Hello,
Not sure if anyone can provide any information on this, but it appears this forum is as close as I have ever come to this answer ? I was born in Wallasey in 1954, and my family lived in Fountain Lodge, on Fountain Road (just behind Rake Lane), and we lived there until we moved to Kenilworth on 1961. My mother and I emigrated to Canada in 1968 after my father passed away in Kenilworth. The house was owned by my fathers employer I believe, a gentleman by the name of Teddy Heron ? who owned either a garage or an automobile dealership of some kind called Heron Motors ? At the time we lived there, there was a church and graveyard adjacent to our house, separated from our garden by a brick wall. Looking now on Google Earth, botht he Lodge House and the Church are gone ? Does anyone have either information on the Church name and what happened to it ? or any photos available of the Fountain Lodge House ?
Any information would be appreciated...
Sincerely
Richard Winnington Fort McMurray Alberta Canada

Hi Richard I did some research on the same house a couple of years ago. There is new block of Nice flats there now,I don't know if it is coincidence or not,but when the builders where clearing the site.I said to one of the men, don't suppose there's any chance of you leaving this bit of history is there? The bit of history was the one stone Gatepost with Fountain Lodge carved into it.It is still there,I had never noticed it before until one day when i passed someone had painted it very nicely in gloss paint.I have a photo of it on my disk. The The garage was demolished it was Fountain Garage but on the side high up on the building was a big old metal sign Heron Motors. As for the Church if i remember rightly it was demolished in the 70's More later

Thanks Celia..... I have a few memories of the old house, I know that as a child, I was scared to death of going upstairs to bed at night, so old, dark and creaky. If you have any pictures, they would be nice to see .
I did manage to find an old class picture on line, of Vaughn Road school, where I went for my first few years...quite nostalgic...
Thanks Richard

Hi Celia
Sorry for not replying sooner - I have been in Turkey for two weeks holiday and only returned to UK this evening.
I have no idea where George or Alice are buried and have just found that their only daughter died in 1998 so no leads at all!
I would be grateful for any help or advice you can offer please?
Huge thanks
Barbara
PS If you need any further info please let me know.
Thanks again

Barbara Because Alice died at the end of the month which was a Friday? there would not have been time to send a orbit for the midweek addition. So i looked at the weekend Saturday.Friday April 6th & 14th April,i didn't find any mention though so possibly in the Wednesday edition. When looking for an orbit in some papers, set outs (they changed as the years went by)You have the Orbit column and it is just that, as well as the abbreviated obituary word. The orbits are short as well 3 liners mostly then you might get obituaries more information. Its always best and i have always done it to read all the pages Articles reporting the death. That might say Sad passing of, or a headline that you wouldn't read, that you should have done.I can vouch for that AS I have mentioned they could have been cremated. By the 1980's the obituaries seem to confirm it, out of a long column only 2 went to Flaybrick and one buried in Landican the rest were all cremated.I will be in hospital for a few days by the time Birkenhead library re-opens.I never go there anyway its off my bus route. So Mel might look in the weekly birkenhead news for you

Hi Barbara and Celia
I went to Birkenhead Library today and there is no Obit in the Birkenhead news. I looked till the end of April. I still have to check the echo.
Barbara when you went to Birkenhead Library did you check all denominations for Landican.
Now for Alice, is her death also April 1984. I havent looked for an obit. I will be going back to Birkenhead library tomorrow and will look for it.
regards
Mel

Dear Celia and Mel
Thank you for your help! Mel I'm sorry if I've confused you on dates . Yes - when I went to Birkenhead Library I checked all denominations in Landican and also Flaybrick for both George and Alice's deaths but no record.
I am most keen to find anything on George's burial/obit etc. I've just found out that he was a mason - would that have any bearing on where he was buried I wonder? I found out by contacting his daughter's nephew who was the information on her death cert. Luckily he was still at the same address 10 years on. He's given me a few papers that George's daughter had but we still don't know where George is buried.
Like you say Celia - George and Alice may have been cremated.
I also found out that George and Alice were married in a methodist church in Birkenhead but it has no graveyard etc.
Thanks again
Barbara
