[b]I've done it/b] Yippee! I used my noggin and copied and pasted it to MGI photosuite, then I resized it to fit, and it's come out absolutely lovely....
I can't thank you all enough.....I am going to frame it for my sister-in-law for Christmas. She will be over the moon.
You are all so kind and lovely.
Thank you so much.

Had a go at colouring your pic...smoothed out faces (prob too much) and added some colour...Still a novice so havn't mastered eyes and skintones.... left textures as is as I like the effect .....work still to be done .....colouring in ladies blouse and staircase.
Was going to post my final version but its not a patch on yours - ...still trying to come to terms with eye's, skintones, saturation, etc etc (endless list)...................hopefully, I may get there in the end.
Would think Sue will be more than pleased with your pic.
Experimenting with this one, but not quite pleased yet. So the pic above is an "if you can't make it, fake it" version: Blended to warm sepia, hoping a slightly faded yellowish look would hide the worst flaws. A cheap trick but it didn't turn out too bad. It masked an ingenious blue cast in the catchlight along the fathers shaded cheek for instance.. like there was a neon light somewhere outside view of the picture
How timely can it get.. they barely had lightbulbs. The first tungsten lamp went into production in 1910 (trading under the name "Mazda"). It was the strongest they had at the time, with a very warm/yellow light.
