Hi Abt,

Welcome to rootschat  Cool

I can't help with the marriage details but I thought I'd have a look at the census.

I can't find him at all, on any census  Huh

Do you have aything more to go on? Did you find them on later census returns? Do you know their ages/birth places?

I'll have another look if you can add a little info.

Sorry, this is not much help for the first reply you get  Sad

Matthew Brough was my g/g/grandfather,he married Hannah Lowndes in 1856 in stoke on trent, father Thomas Brough, tailor.
Their son Edward was born in 1857.
1861 Matthew is in Spittall Workhouse b. 1799
1871 Matthew is a lodger at 34 George street,Newcastle
he died in 1874 at age 70?
In 1861/1871 Hannah and Edward in Cheadle Staffs with Hannahs mother  they remained in Cheadle all their lives.
Matthew Brough was a widower when he married Hannah
and although i have searched for many years the only other marriage of a Matthew Brough is the one in Mickleover.
Matthew was a master tailor  and there were a family of 'Brough' tailors in the Leek area
I believe that Matthew may be the Matthew Brough baptised 1807 Leek, born possibly Leek or Cheddleton.
I was hoping that the parish register would show that Matthew who married 1851 was a tailor.

I'm very sorry, I have tried everything I can think of - can't find them.

I hope somebody else will have more luck or be able to look the parish register up. Otherwise you might have to order the marriage cert (reference is on FreeBMD).
