Hi Again!
You could try posting a request on the look up boards fro the 1841 census for Mary and William - you may get lucky here as some of their children may still be at home. Where were mary and William born?
Cheers Jan

hiya Jan, not sure where they were born but one of William's sons John Stenson gt gt g/dad was born at Shardlow. I've come onto the Leicestershire site because William and Mary wed at Loughborough. I will try a posting as advised and see if I can get their true dob, maybe on the marriage. Once again thanks

Hi Again
Seems like you have the same dilema as we have - our family was mostly from Worthington leicestershire, which sometimes comes under Ashby de la Zouch and other times Breedon Leicestershire, 2.9 miles away is Melbourne where other rellies are from but this is in Derbyshire and comes under Shardlow - we then move about 4 miles down the road to Burton which comes in the county Stafford! meaning we have to try various boards to try and trace them. I'll have another look, for William and john - Do you have an approx birth for John?
Cheers Jan

hi, it's me again. John Stenson dob 1830 Shardlow married Mary Ann Hood dob 1833 in 1854. I do belive that info is good, John's parents- - William and Mary wed 1819 at Loughborough. William dob 1797? Mary dob 1793? I'm now at your mercy!

Hi Again
i have managed to find John 1830 in the 1851 census he is a labourer on a construction site aged 21 a visitor in Sawley Derbyshire Reference HO107/2141 district: Shardlow Sub-registration district: Stapleford. the head of the House is Gervase Marshall. John's birth place is Shardlow Derbys.I also had a reply on Genesreunited regarding someome that may be a relative of William and John
"William STENSON a canal boatman, b. c1820 in Shardlow, was my 2nd great grandfather and the son of William STENSON, also a boatman. The DOB of your friend's relation William sr. would certainly be possible for my relation's father. My relation was married in the parish church at Lockington, Leics and one of the witnesses was a Mary STENSON, a sister perhaps. If this fits with your friend's family or if you need any more info, do please let me know. Best wishes,"
Cheers Jan

Jan, what you've sent is amazing. Please tell your contact my William, (gt/gt/gt/g dad) was from my info a boat-builder and as i've said was married at Loughborough to Mary Delves 1819. William's dob I think was 1797. William's son John was born in Shardlow 1830. Could there be family connections, fingers crossed. thanks Arthur

hiya Jan, many thanks, i've spoken to Peter and also e-mailed him some info. I do believe we are related. The William and Mary are our ancestors, William's children included William dob 1820 - Peter's line and John dob 1830 my line. I'm waiting for him to digest what I've sent, if it's ok i'll let you know the outcome.
