surrey lookup for Hughes Woking
« on: Thursday 10 November 05 19:39 GMT (UK) »

I have found my Grandfather Frank Henry Hughes marriage to Esther Brennan In Ireland Jan 1912 it says his age was "full" meaning, I assume, he was 21 or over Frank's residence was given as Woking Surrey, but he was in the 2nd Royal Sussex Regiment.  Frank's marriage certificate gives his fathers name as Frederick Hughes, Engine Driver.  Is there any chance that someone could look up in any of the census' for Frederick Hughes around the Woking area?  Or any other help advice as to what/where else I could look would be really great.
Many Thanks Smiley

Full age does mean 21 or over, yes.

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/ shows a Frank Hughes, an F. Hughes, and a F. H. Hughes, were in the Royal Sussex Regiment during WWI (medal rolls).  Was a rank given on Frank Henry Hughes' marriage certificate?  The F. H. Hughes is listed as a Serjeant, the other two were privates at the time of WWI.

Do you know if Frank Henry Hughes was still in the army after WWI, specifically after 1920?  If so, you can try getting his army records from the MOD:

Woking probably refers to the Inkermann Barracks, Woking, where the Royal Sussex were before coming to Ireland.
