LITTLEJOHNS of Cookbury, Devon
« on: Tuesday 31 August 04 10:32 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

I'm trying to find a christening record for an Edward Littlejohns. The information i have about him so far is as follows:

He married Ann Milford at Cookbury Parish Church in 1831. Their entry mentions they were both 'sojourners' (not from the parish) even though Ann was born in Cookbury, they were presumably living elsewhere.

They had 4 children: George Littlejohns, baptised Cookbury, 1831; John, baptised Cookbury, 1834; Ann, baptised Hollacombe, 1836; Jane, baptised Hollacombe 1841.

I haven't been able to find a baptism record for Edward in either the IGI or the few devon records held at the Society of Genealogists. If anyone can help please let me know. Ann was baptised in 1803 so I presume Edward was of a similar age. Edwards job was an agricultural labourer.

Thanks

Paula

Hi

I have Mary Littlejohn in my family tree b 1774 Shebbeare, Devon. This is around the Cookbury/Milton Damerel/Thornbury area. I also have a picture of Littlejohn Cottage, if you're interested let me know.

I would be interested to know if you've been able to find any more info regarding your Littlejohns of Cookbury as it's very probable that there is a connection.

Hi,

From what i've managed to find out (or not as the case is) i don't seem to be related to the Shebbear or Black Torrington Littlejohns, even though the name 'Edward' seems to be used frequently throughout the generations. I'm currently moving my searches to South Devon.

Regards

I have a Edward Littlejohns in my tree who was a carpenter he was born c1781 (not sure where) and married Sarah Addy in 1817 in Stoke Dameral. He died in 1828 in Plymouth, Devon. They resided at Summerland place in Plymouth.

There children were as follows:

Eliza Ann born 1818 in Plymouth
Charlotte born 1821 in Plymouth
Mary Ann born 1823 in Plymouth
Emma born 1825 in Plymouth
Edwin born 1828 in Plymouth (my great great great grandfather) who moved to London in the 1850s after the crimean war and set up a theatrical building company

there may of been another son called William but I have yet to find birth/baptism for him.

I am lost when it comes to Edward as I have been unable to trace back any further and as Edward was deceased before any census' I have no idea where he was born. I  do however know that his wife Sarah was born in East Stonehouse.

okay I now believe my Edward Littlejohns was the one baptised in Shebbear in 1782. He died in 1828 at the age of 47, so it seems to all add up.

lalkav I wonder if your Mary is related???
