I am looking for the following family in 1841. In 1851, the parents were living alone -

Shaftesbury   St Peter HO 107 1851 F 118 Page 19
James Miles 72 Carpenter Journeyman b Melbury Dorset
Mary Miles  67   b Tifed Neville Dorset

3 of the children were baptised (a little late) in 1826 at French Mill (James was listed as a Miller).

The children were
Eleanor May 7 1812
Josiah Jan 14 1814  probably born Milberry
Thomas Bullen Aug 21 1815
Edwin Sep 19 1817
Emma (twin of Edwin)
Maria Aug 9 1819
Henry Oct 5 1821
Lois Ann Jan 9 1823 probably born Cann
Jane  Dec 28 1825

Hi again

This is the only probable for Josiah in 1841

Josiah Miles, age 25, ms, born in county

He was listed as man servant to a family called Farquharson, they had 26 servants listed!

There are 3 possibles for Thomas but this looks the most likely.

Thomas Miles, age 25, carpenter, born in county
Jane Miles, age 25, born in county

There doesnt seem to be an Edwin that fits.

Thank you so much Nicky - After much help from another Rootschatter I found them in 51 and have then taken most of the children through until their death - although a couple were still living in 1901.

The 1841 is helping immensely as my direct ancestor, Henry, left England before 1851.

One does wonder how the other half lived - 26 servants  Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes
