Farrell Shannon
« on: Saturday 12 November 05 14:55 UTC (UK) »

Has anyone come across my Grandfather, Farrell Shannon, in Cavan between approx 1856 and 1900? His parents are believed to have lived in Cavan (exact location unknown) and he served in other counties in the Royal Irish Constabulary until 1900. Then he moved to Mayo and married Eleanor Charlotte Gray, his second wife. We know nothing of his first wife and family but we believe that Farrell's father was Robert Shannon. Any information would be most welcome.

Hei Paddy,

There were several families with the surname Shannon in Co. Cavan at the time Grifiths Valuation of Ireland (1848-64) was conducted in the county  1856-7 http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php The surname Farrell was also in the county at the same time. A further check reveals that there were Farrells and Shnnons living in the same parish in Co. Cavan between 1848-64 http://scripts.ireland.com/ancestor/surname/index.cfm

Best Wishes, Christopher

Paddy:
I think I found him!

Marriages in the Castlebar/Aglish Parish records.

"Some villages listed also some fathers names listed

Arranged as follows:
Groom's forename  Fathers full name in ( ) Town, if there was a different
town listed for father I have listed it in along side fathers Name in ( )
Brides name and rest as above."

Farrell SHANNON (Robert SHANNON) to Honoria PENDERGRAST Knockcahillaun (James PENDERGRAST in the US) August 23 1888

Apologies for my long delayed reply. Computer problems now sorted sufficiently for me to get online again.
Thank you very much Christopher and Pat for your replies. Both very interesting to me and Farrell's marriage info looks very promising indeed. Many thanks again.

Paddy.
