Ireland to India
« on: Tuesday 31 August 04 19:25 BST (UK) »

Hi everyone, I've posted a look up request but I also wonder if anyone would know why an Irish family would have moved to India around 1865 ish. Huh

I know alot of families moved to America, but India? I have no idea why they would have gone there.

Cheers

xx

Hi Spotty

Could they have been in the army?  I have one guy who was in the army and it seems the family went with them as I have one child born in Gibralter and one in Poona India, although they did actually come back home.  Maybe they came out of the army and stayed there?

Regards
Jen.

I agree with you, Jen.
My GG Grandfather William Munson was born in India to an Officer in the British Army. William moved on in life to join the British Army also; the 44th East Essex Regiment (10th Hussars). William was sent to Ireland. He married an Irish lady named Mary Ellen O'Callaghan. Their first child, (My Great Grandmother)was born in Newbridge, Ireland. Her younger siblings were each born in different places: Canterbury, Hounslow, Military Headquarters of War (India) and Muree (India).
