The Engineers museum is at Chatham, so perhaps make some initial enquiries there:

http://www.army.mod.uk/royalengineers/library/index.htm

For his service record you'll need the National Archives at Kew:

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

Engineers officers' records are in Wo25/3913-3920

I can't see a Chrichton Walker in the 1881 or 1885 Army List (in your other request you suggest he was in the army in the 1860s).

Best of luck -

Thank you so much for all your information it"s greatly appreciated I shall follow your leads Crichton snr born 1843 was in Hampshire as military fore man 1871 census, in 1891 he was in Battersea age 48 Captain Royal Engineers, in 1901 he was Isle of Wight a Major Royal Engineers age 58 the same year his son was at Sandhurst Engineer Elite so obviously army family I noticed Crighton jnr was born Gibraltar so Chrichton snr was there in 1867, I am surprised with that unusual name and the fact that he was in the army all his life that nothing showed up.
