Hi jericho,

Wonder what he has been transcribed as??

You have checked the death lists have you - there are a couple who might fit the bill!!

The only George I could find that was born in Bishop Stortford

George Saville - boarder - 28 - Carpenter - Bishop Stortford.
RG9/293
F78 P6
1861

Not much use - but you never know!!

Cheers

Jericho! - how come you always have the hard ones?? Tongue

The 1861 England Census has Misc Ships at Sea or Abroad - Vessels
problem is - it's not indexed and there's loads of them because each ship - boat - tug or yacht has it's own census !! .... !
He could be a sailor ....! he could be in the army .... ! Roll Eyes

I'll keep looking!

Hi Keith

I have checked the deaths for a George Searles, but have not be able to find him. A fellow rootchatter says his birth is down as Start Hill born 1833, as is his sister Sarah whom I have managed to find Thanks.

Hi   Annie

Easy, Annie I thought I'd leave all the easy ones for you, Grin Grin Cheesy Cheesy            this family either gets married  and there no record, or they die young and really have no consideration for those who may want to find them in the future.   I've really no idea where George is, he will probably crawl out of the woodwork one day just like the rest of them. Thanks for your help.

In the 1871 census in London Road, Stevenage, there is George Searle age 39, bricklayer, born Hitchin, Emma, wife age 35 strw pltr, Lizzy 6, Florence 1 and George Ansell 27, border.

Emma's maiden name is Ansell and George is her brother.
George is my Great Grandfather.

Sorry I don't have the 1861 census

Hi Pauline

Do you have any information about George Searles family, ex parents or siblings and have you managed to find him on earlier census, as this is probably the only way I am going to be able to identify him as mine.
