Unread Posts

Is the site experiencing difficulties today?
I normally sign in & out several times during the day (so the boss doesn't catch me at work!) & can catch up by going straight to "Unread posts". Even after holidays they are all still there (often over 20 pages or more), but today I am only finding one page of unreads - missing several hours of input

Not sure why there's a difference from your normal experience but you can either look at the bottom of the page and click All Unread (takes ages, as there will be thousands of them)
or - you can do a Rootschat search for anything within the last day. I think that would work - haven't actually tried it!
Kind regards, Arranroots
Edit - it does work - just search on "the" or "a"

At a slight tangent, but isn't there a way of marking all posts as read? Every other forum I've used has this facility, but I can't seem to find it here.
As a new member, practically every post is marked "new" for me, and it's rather distracting. I'm never going to read every post (won't live that long! ), and I would like to have a clean sheet to start from.

I suppose they're marked as read by the fact they don't appear as unread posts! I know what you mean though, it would be useful.

Yes, you see I don't often use the "unread posts" facility as there are a lot of sections I don't have an interest in at the moment. I prefer to go straight to the areas that may have something relevant to me. Then I click on the posts that look interesting, or to which I might be able to contribute, and it would be so useful to be able to clear the rest each time I visit.
Seems very odd there's no "Mark all as read" feature, it seems to be pretty standard.

Thanks Arranroots for the suggestion for searching within the last day - I haven't tried that before.
I tried All Unread as you mention, but as I hovered the cursor over it, the legend disappeared & would not react.
Lets hope today it sorts itself out as Roobarb's did

Well.........something is different.
When I signed on this morning there were three pages of "unread posts since last visit" going back to 11.30 pm yesterday. I looked at a topic on page 3 asking about some information requested about christenings in Manchester Cathedral and when I went back to unreads there were only five items remaining.
It wasn't my cookie as I had cleared it from my pc and had to log on.
