I am looking for any information on John Barron and Mary Shaw who would have married some time around 1794/5. Between 1795 and 1817 they had 11 children, all born in Cumbernauld.
John Barron is 5 generations back on my wife's side. Any information that would help me break down this brick wall would be greatly appreciated.
I have a Jean Barron (John and Mary's daughter) who "was buried in Cumbernauld Churchyard which was certified by Robert Warden (Undertaker)" This was in 1855.
I also have three later generations buried there. I have been to the Churchyard and have only found a stone for the more recent burials in 1904-22 and 1953-76 (my wife's grandparents) I know of one other plot with no stone with burials 1916-20.
It has been suggested to me that John and Mary may have been too early for the churchyard in Cumbernauld and may have been buried in Kilsyth or Kirkintilloch.
Unfortunately I do not have any others of Mary Shaw's family, although I do recollect having seen a few stones with the Shaw name.
The Barron Family lived for several generations in the Wynd in Cumbernauld. Their house was eventually sold in the mid 80s and is currently a children's Nursery.
Hi, just come across your post and wondered if you ever found where John was buried.
I live in Cumbernauld and know of another graveyard that you maybe haven't tried, not sure when it was first used though but worth a try. It is call EASTFIELD CEMETERY and is only about 1-2 miles from Cumbernauld Village
The only details that I have for John and Mary is that John appears in the 1841 Census with no wife. He does not appear in the 1851 census so safe to assume that Mary died before 1841 and John died between 1841 and 1851. All of their children were born in Cumbernauld between 1795 and 1817.
Their daughter Jean died in 1855 and is buried in Cumbernaul Churchyard as certified by the undertaker. I have visited the churchyard na dhave been unable to find this grave.
Their son James died 1857 in Baronhill.
The 1841 census shows the family living at Roadside which came after North Main Street on page 25 of the census.
