hello,frederick i think married a kate(katherine imrie) ,their child was my mother(now deceased),,there is no infomation at all for my grandad on my mothers side please help if you can
my name is philip chance,,my mothers name was doreen imrie chance(hotham)moms mother was katherine(kate) imrie  who  we think MARRIED  fredrick hotham

Hello Phil

I think you need to establish a few facts before trying to work backwards.  Have you still got elderly relatives you can talk to who might be able to help?

Do you know your mum's date of birth?  It would be useful to get her marriage and birth certificates, as these should give her parents' names. 

Mum's birth cert, in particular, will tell you where she was born and you can then look for her parents' marriage - you will have a rough idea of the date and location.

Although I can find both a Frederick HOTHAM and Kate or Catherine IMRIE, they are not all in Gloucestershire.  Are you sure that that is where they would be in 1901 or earlier, or might they have come to the area from elsewhere?

Anything else you can add to what you have already said would help us to look...
