1901 Burns Road, Harlesden
« on: Sunday 20 November 05 16:28 GMT (UK) »

Can somebody please tell me which of the 70+ districts in Willesden contained Burns Road, Harlesden. I am looking for people called Lane or Collis, possibly at 78 Burns Road. Thanks in anticipation,

Hi Barry.

Burns Road is in  NW10, which is in Harlesden in the London borough of Brent.

It is quite close to Craven Park.

Regards Tom.

Hi Barry.

Regards Tom.
Thanks, Tom. I know exactly where Burns Road is in a geographical sense (just behind the house in St Johns Avenue where my father-in-law was born) but was hoping someone with an index or something similar would tell me in which of the 72 enumeration districts of the Willesden area I could find its census records. I tried looking at more than 20 but the images of the descriptions of enumeration districts load so slowly, they take ages. There are only so many hours in the day and I hoped someone could shorten my quest.
Thanks anyway,
Barry

You can do an address search on the http://www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk/  website.  They say that 78 Burns Road is in the Ecclesiastical Parish of St Matthew, Parliamentary Borough of Harrow, if that helps.  Municipal Borough is Willesden and ward is Harlesden.  (of course, if you have any credits, you could just view the image straight from there).

Hi Jorose, thanks for your help, stupid thing is that only a week ago I wasted £5 credits to find just one image which Ancestry.com couldn't find. I followed your suggestion but either the site is having an "off day" or I am as it couldn't find the address. If I had the piece, folio and page numbers I could get the image direct from Ancestry but my computer or the modem is far too slow to entertain searching through 72 districts.

I worked out how I got it to show up on the address search: House and/or Street as 'Burns', place as 'Willesden'.

Many thanks, I finally found it in the 21st district !! No sign of the people I wanted at the address in question so the hunt for the missing Lanes goes on.

Thanks for your kind offer, Carol.
The members of the LANE family I’m looking for in 1901 are:-
Mary Anne Amelia Lane (nee Johns, born Euston 1861)
Emma Lane, born 1882, Gloucester
Amelia Lane, born 1885, Oldham
Ernest Lane, born 1885, Harlesden
Clara Lane (my wife’s grandmother), born 1890, Willesden
In 1891 they were all at 9 Rucklidge Avenue, Willesden
I believe that on the 21st June 1904 they lived at 8 Rucklidge Avenue as this is the address given by Mary Ann Lane on the copy of Clara’s birth registration issued under
The Factory and Workshop Act, 1891, presumably to prove her age to an employer.
The next certain record I have is at the time of Clara's first marriage, to Daniel James Collis on 26/Feb/1911, when her address was 78 Burns Road, Harlesden, Willesden

Charles Henry Lane, born 1854 in Templemoor (Barracks) Ireland.
I have actually found him in the 1901 census at RG13_Pc-113_Fo-123_Pg-27 which is 23 Little Exeter Street, Marylebone as Henry Lane (same as 1891).

Morning Baz

Sorry no luck so far-have tried every combination of all of the names, where born and when, and none of these Lanes are showing up.
Not anywhere,never mind Willesden.

Does anyone know if there are parts of the area not enumerated?

Mmmmm Charles Lane down as Henry- yes it's all coming back to me now  Grin

Perhaps they'd won the lottery and went on a cruise? Hahaha

Regards

Barry,

Did you ever find the Lane's in 1901?

Or should we start looking again?

All the best
