Hi wildfang

I'm glad you got your church showing, well done.

When I first came on RootsChat I saw a list of acceptable files and doc was on the list. I have just checked on my own site and doc is not liked at all. So you have the choice of saving it as a web page or as text .txt using word programme File/Save as....

message to Admin, help, I cannot find an up to date list of acceptable files on RC. Where have you hidden it? Grin

Nice one Julianb

unfortunately that list is from 1st Oct 2005 and includes doc which wildfang and I find doesn't work....

Either it never worked or the list has been narrowed but I would like to see the current one somewhere easily found. How did you find this one so quickly?

cheers falcybe

These are permitted files on the webspace - doesn't mean they will work!   I think this list is of those files that you can upload to your space (without them being rejected).  I've not been able to find a more up to date list.  If you are desparate send Berlin-Bob a PM.

PS - Always check the step by step tutorial - most of the answers are in there  Smiley

Hi, yes I've already PM'd BB. I didn't remember the list was on the tutorial and I missed it tonight, looking for something not there instead of the obvious!  Huh

Can't work out why a file is permitted if it won't work. I've never done that before.

A big thanks to everyone - everything now works OK.

As per falcybe's advice, I saved the .doc file as a web page in word and uploaded the site from scratch. The link now works and the home page photo also displays as I already mentioned.

Counter is in

I struggled to follow the advice about adding code for including a "contact me" form, so I shall take my chances with the spambots. In any case, the email I include on my site is not my usual one, but one I set up specifically for this site

Good work everybody

Cheers

Wildfang

Great stuff.  You're now at base camp.  The fiddling with it bit comes next as you decide to add more features!

And I see you are getting a few hits - counter up to 55 just now.

Anyway, well done

Congratulations Wildfang.

Do you realise that your website on RootsChat freespace is the only one to pass the W3C validation test and be error free?  Check here for details:

http://validator.w3.org/

You get a gold star for that!

The only error is actually caused by the RootsChat counter:

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="Javascript" SRC="http://counter.rootschat.net/counter.php?page=rush-grimwood.rootschat.net">//--></SCRIPT>

which needs to be changed to:

<script type="text/javascript src="http://counter.rootschat.net/counter.php?page=rush-grimwood.rootschat.net"></script>

N.B. all in lowercase letters, in order to be perfectly formed in W3C lingo.
Once you have done that, you are entitled to add their W3C logo with the big tick to your site.

Not bad for a novice eh?

Don't add or modify anything and it will remain perfectly formed until they decide to change everything in a couple of years time.  Smiley

Downside

Thanks for the info.

However, the counter is working and I just pasted the code as posted by Rootschat themselves!

Hi Wildfang

Possibly you misunderstood what I was trying to get at.  The RootsChat counter code is not incorrect as such, but it does not conform to W3C guidelines when you use the DTD:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">

If you enter you website address at the link I supplied and ask for it to be checked it will list 2 errors.

If you have had the patience to go through all the RootsChat sites to check W3C compliance, then you deserve a medal (or a sanity check  Grin).
