I am seeking any information about the marriage of John Farr and Mary Ann Keep on the 8th July 1850 in Ridgemont Bedfordshire (found in I.G.I's) and their family. I have looked in the 1851 and 1861 census but cannot find them. I have no knowledge of when and where they were born. They would have had at least 4 children John , Thomas , Susan and Mary Ann. It is thought that John , Thomas and Susan were taken into care in the late 1860's although Barnado's have no knowledge of this . Any help would be appreciated

The IGI marriage is actually between John Farr and Ann Keep, not Mary Ann Keep, and there is a baptism in Ridgmont of Ann Keep in 1826. There is also a baptism in Ridgmont of Mary Farr, parents John and Ann, in 1854.
If you think that your family was John and Mary Farr then the Ridgmont family may not be yours.
But still can't find John and Ann, or dau Mary, in 1851 or 1861!

Ridgemont marriage (from parish registers): (BMD reg Sep Woburn)
No 100 July 8th 1850
John Farr full age bachelor Labourer of Ridgemont father John Farr Labourer Anne Keep full age spinster Lacemaker Ridgemont father Enoch Keep Labourer
Both left their mark x
Wit: Thomas Lawson X & Hannah Keep x
Baptism Ridgemont
No 46 March 12th 1854 Mary dau of Ann & John Farr (looked like Parr!) of Woburn Sands Labourer.
If this is the correct family then perhaps some other kind sole would search for the other children who may have been baptised in Woburn Sands!

Hi again
If the above Farr children were actually born in Woburn Sands then the Thomas Farr (32) in the 1881 census at Chapel St, Woburn could be the Thomas above (birthplace named as Woburn).
He had a wife Sarah (25) bn Woburn & a son Sydney (9) born in Erith, Kent.
This means that this Thomas Farr was probably in Kent in the 1871 census. His wife could only have been about 16 when she had Sydney!
Possible further clues could be had by checking their marriage entry - Woburn/Woburn Sands?
That is, of course, if this the correct family
Good luck

Hi Criggy Sorry to have been so long in coming back on site but I have been away for a few weeks. Thanks for all your hard work but I think it must be the wrong family. I have been back to the source of my info and they cannot add anything new. I noticed that you are interested in the LEAHY family. In the 1940s , 50,s ,60,s I grew up with a family of that name in Surrey

Hi again
My Leahy's are spread over a wide area. They originated in Ireland, moving to London at the time of the potato famine. My branch moved to Reading from where they again dispersed, having had fourteen children. What were the names of the Leahy's you knew if you don't mind me asking?
Keep hunting, you'll get there one day
Regards

I just found your posting of John Farr and Mary Ann Keep, I am a descendant of their son John Farr, he was my great great grandfather and would like to compare notes with you.
I just recently found the 1861 Census for them and found Ann Keep's death certificate.

The Marriage of John FARR was to Anne KEEP (not Mary Ann) was July 8, 1850 in Ridgmont, Beds as follows: No 100 July 8th 1850 John Farr full age bachelor Labourer of Ridgemont father John Farr Labourer Anne Keep full age spinster Lacemaker Ridgemont father Enoch Keep Labourer Both left their mark x Wit: Thomas Lawson X & Hannah Keep x Their daughter, Mary Ann's baptism is as follows: No 46 March 12th 1854 Mary dau of Ann & John Farr (looked like Parr!) of Woburn Sands Labourer.
After 5 more children were born, Anne (KEEP) FARR died in 1868 as follows: Anne Farre 1868, quarter Jul-Aug-Sep, age 43, West Ham, Essex, Greater London, volume 4a, page 36. Cause of death Ulcerated Womb-1 year- Exhaustion 1 month, age 43 yrs
John Farr (mispelled as Furr) is listed with his children in Plaistow: 1871 Census England PRO RG10 1631 page 24 Civil Parish (or Township) of West Ham Ward of Plaistow Local Board of West Ham Ecclesiastical District of S. Mark No of Schedule 298 John Furr (should be Farr) Head, Widower, 40, Labourer in manual work?, Beds, Woburn, Mary, daug, ?, 18, blank, Essex, Plaistow Ann, daug, ?, 12, scholar, Essex, Plaistow Susan, daug, ?, 10, scholar, Essex, Plaistow John, son, ?, 8, scholar, Essex, Plaistow Thomas, son, ?, 6, scholar, Essex, Plaistow Sarah, daug. ?, 4, Essex, Plaistow Charles, grandson, ?, 8 mos, Essex, Plaistow
Sometime between the census date and August 1872-1874, the children became wards of Miss Macpherson. I do not know which home they would have gone to as those records were passed on to Barnardo's in 1925 and they had only limited information on the children. In May 1872 Susan was sent to Quebec, Canada as a domestic servant. In Aug 1874 John (age 12) was sent to Kirkaldy, Fife, Scotland to work in a linoleum factory and Thomas (my gr grandfather) was sent to Ontario, Canada to work on a farm. I do not know what happened to Mary Ann and Annie at that time, but they remained in the area. Mary Ann married James Stratton and Annie married William Bays. I do not have any information regarding Sarah or the grandson, Charles. I have not found any record of John Farr after the 1871 census.
I would appreciate any information about this family and the parents of John Farr and Anne Keep. I will certainly share what I have with anyone who is interested.
Thank you for reading this message.
