Neill
« on: Sunday 27 November 05 00:47 GMT (UK) »

Hi out there
I have been trying to track down a death of a James Neill an engraver in the Salford area.  I know he married Euphemia Kirkwood in dunipace Scotland in 1816.  I also know they moved to Lancashire as they had a  few children  born in salford .  We have found Euphemia with some of the children in the 1841 census living in brook street greengate  salford.  We have been unable to find James in the 1841 census and also Robert their first son born in Scotland in 1817.  We have Roberts marriage on 30 October 1842 to Jane Roebuck.  If anyone has info on James or Euphemia it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi

I haven't found them but I had a similar problem with some rels & then realised that 4xGgrandfather died the week before the census back in Cheshire & key senior family members were back with grieving widow / mother when census was taken & not at home.

Any chance James & Robert slipped back to Scotland?  Is James definitely still alive?

Regards

Dear SKB
How can we thank you.  I have tried the 1851 census and have been unable to find her.
I typed the number HO1O7/2223  1Q 108 into the ancestry .com 1851 census and it comes up blank, could this be because of the water damage.  From this I know that James has definitely died before 1851.  Again thanks so much I still have to find James death and Euphemia's death but it has helped to complete the picture.
Could you confirm the census number for me.
Thanks again

Dear Sandra C
There is a chance they did, just have been unable to confirm.
Any ideas are most welcome.
Thanks

1851 info is from the water damaged section so is not on the ancestry database or the usual cd/microfilm copies - if you look at them you find great chunks are labelled "decayed" and pages are either missing or barely legible. Members of the Manchester and Lancashire Family History Society (www.mlfhs.org.uk) have transcribed many of the missing sections and the reference is from one of these transcripts.
